Use the main library search box to find literary criticisms in printed library books. Use the author's name and/or title of work, and the word criticism as a keyword.
Example: Find a literary criticism on Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
• Search with the words Charles Dickens "Great Expectations" criticism. Once on the results page, you can narrow your results to available online articles or "In Library" books.
• Another option is to use the Advanced Search option. Advanced search allows you to search by subject and in the MVCC Catalog which is only in library materials.
Advanced Search by Subject example: Charles Dickens criticism
These searches will retrieve the literary criticism books on Charles Dickens that are in the MVCC collection. Some of these books may contain a chapter or an essay on Great Expectations. Consult the index at the end of the book and look up Great Expectations.

Advanced Search by Subject: Dickens criticism
AND
Advanced Search by All Fields: “Great Expectations”
This search will retrieve literary criticism books on Dickens that contain the keyword “Greats Expectations” in their description. This method of searching should not be used at the exclusion of the first method described above, as it will miss many books that indeed contain criticism on Great Expectations.
